New Motor Mount Bar for Carrera 3.2 - Partial Engine Drop to Install?
Broke my old mount bar and now have a new one from Pelican (Rennline). Searched and there is a great difference of opinion about whether you can sneak the new one into a 3.2 around the engine tin with a partial drop. Has anyone been able to do this? If not, what do I need to remove to do it?

It can be done, but it isn't all that fun. The bolts are a bit hard to get to. You should pull the rear engine tin. Good Luck

I replaced my engine mount bar with a partial drop, but I don't think my engine tin was in at the time (that "while you're in there" thing). Here's a caveat for the Carreras...you'll never get that rear piece of engine tin out (even with a partial drop) unless you remove the "hot air pipe" (or whatever it's called) that protrudes up next to the distributor through the rear piece. One thing leads to another, and if your exhaust has never been apart, that can be a royal PITA too, so I'd personally try it with the rear tin in place first. Good luck!

Just for future reference, you CAN get a motor mount bar into the engine bay by doing a partial drop on a 3.2 Carrera without removing engine tin or the muffler (remember to unhook the shift coupler between the rear seats so as not to bend anything per the partial drop threads). DID have to take off the A/C and the mounting bracket under it to let the engine drop enough. Nothing else needed to be removed and no wires/fuel lines were over-stretched. (Just put in the new/dreaded 3.2 Carrera high pressure fuel lines earlier this week).
I loosened the old bolts and then threaded & tightened the new ones with the engine lifted back up on the jack (with a block of wood to cushion). Thanks, as usual, Pelicans... Last edited by RKC; 04-10-2008 at 07:46 AM.. |

With the partial engine drop you did, is it possible to replace the bell-shaped engine mounting bracket? I need to replace both the bracket and the mounting bar. Thanks!

When I replaced my tensioners, I had to remove the muffler, engine tin, the blower pipes, the A/C compressor and mount, etc.... I believe that had I needed to, a new bar would have probably been easy to just slide the old out and the new in. I did not think much about doing that, but it was wide open after all the other items were removed. It appeared that the engine could have been supported and the bar removed and the new slid back in place. Maybe I am missing something that would make this more difficult, but I don't remember anything being in the way after all of those other parts came out??? Good luck!! Tony.

I did this to my 77 930 this weekend and only had to unbolt and reposition the air conditioning compressor and do a 3-4" drop. No messing with shift linkage, turbo tubes or engine tin.
I had all day Sat & Sun put aside for the job, but it only took two hrs on Sat. ![]() btw, Rennline RSR bar (purchased at Hershey in April) looks fantastic. ![]() Bill K
