Clutch Help!

I have the 915 Trans. 83 SC.
Changed clutch parts.. TO Bearing was broken and balls all over the place. Fork was beat up. Its all new now.
When I put the engine in... what is the position of the fork? Right now its turned towards the front of the car... Given that the TO is mounted to the pressure plate, how does one engage it with the fork?
Not mentioned in Wayne's book... or the Pelican Tech article on changing the clutch.

Thanks
Brad

look through the hole in the driver side of the bellhousing and guide the fork into the t/o bearing groove as you slide the trans on. pretty easy. double check when the engine and trans mate completely. if the trans is in the car, use a mirror and flashlight to do the same thing. either stick a screwdriver in there to move the fork or use the shaft below the bellhousing.

ok... guided it into the grove in the TO bearing. Should there be ANY play? I have NONE.
Also, if I put a pair of vise grips on the arm below... should I be able to move the clutch? I get NO movement... maybe I wont with the small amount of torque. Just dont want to have to redo this once I get it all bolted in.

Thanks

no play at all is ok. You will never be able to move that fork with a vise grip. You need your leg muscles, remember?

you should be able to see the fork wiggle a tiny amount within the T/O bearing groove. it's not jammed solid in there.
