Using a Heated Oxygen Sensor on '80-'83 911 SCs?
I'm curious if there are advantages to running a three-wire, or heated, oxygen sensor on an '80-'83 911 SC equipped with K-Jetronic with lambda circuit.
Would the system get into closed loop operation quicker? Thoughts? Brian

It probably would help a little, are you getting excessive rich exhaust upon startup?

No, no problems at all. Just curious because it wouldn't be that difficult to wire one up.
If it heats quicker, I wonder if it would -- over the long run -- result in some fuel economy gains. I think there are some guys that run three-wire oxygen sensors. Brian

I don' think it would do any harm to switch to a heated sensor, I tend to let my car warm up at idle for 1-2 mins before I carefully drive it, so I guess if you were doing the same you might save a little fuel on this warm up period. If you drive straight away it probably won't save that much.
If you want to have the engine run more efficiently you might want to look into having your injectors cleaned, I have read some articles on how with age the spray pattern degrades into more of a jet than a fine spray, companies will ultrasonically clean the injectors and restore the nice plume of fine mist which helps it burn more efficiently.
