Comments on my 915 case?

Good day!
A short while ago, I posted and received some helpful comments on the condition of my '72 915 5-speed tranny synchros and dog teeth. I received this tranny as part of a project car; although previous owner claimed it was a driver before he tore the car apart, I was not able to experience how well (or poorly) the tranny shifted/worked.

Since then, I have continued to disassemble the tranny including removal of the ring/pinion gear for general inspection, as well as replace the mainshaft seal from the inside of the unit. A few things caught my attention that I'm hoping for some opinions on...

First, the mainshaft bearing in the main case has a retaining clip holding it in... this clip seems to have a bulge on one side - didn't seem normal, comments? As well, seems to be some scoring around this area; not as concerned, but comments appreciated on this area. Pls see pic that follows:

Second question is what seems to be a gash in the tranny housing from who knows what - perhaps a ring/pinion gear that got out of whack? Current gearset is in fine shape with no scoring, etc... Just wondering if I should be concerned with the condition of this housing, or if it's fine to use in current shape. Your thoughts and comments greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Pat
