Attended Diablo Region concours Sunday and
noticed something I'm sure someone here can answer. In MOST '85 thru '87 911's I reviewed there were lever controls (heater?) extending out of the emergency brake rubber boot. In my 86Targa there are NONE! What am I missing? I have Air (Nippon Denso), heat via the center control knob. I saw another 86 without them and at least one 86 as well as the 85's and 87's with the levers. Anyone??? George 86T |

The cars with two levers behind emergency brake ARE missing something : they are missing the optional automatically regulated heater. The two levers allow manual opening of the left and right flaps at the back of the car. Post-84 cars with manual heater control should also have a three position round dial between the seats two control the left and right 3-speed blowers.
Your car has the automatically regulated heater and the flaps are er... automatically opened or closed : no levers. ------------------ Pierrick Carrera 3.2L '88 |

My 77 Euro Carrera was the first year of the auto climate control. I think it's matter of time and money. Probably something went wrong with the control box and they elected to go back to the old. Much easier than spending hours and money trying to fix the climate control. Especially if the car is a driver. Not worrying about being a show car.
