Quick question - Remove windshield to get the dash out?

I have some cracks in my 71T dash and I looking to do a DIY job to repair.
Does the windshield need to be removed to get it out?
Thanks in advance.
Andy

Not an easy job. Why are you doing it, crack repair?

yes, I would like to repair a few cracks on the top.

The car is a track car, so I am not overly concerned. I just do not want to go through removing the windshield.
I read up on your experience and was thinking of trying a variation of it.

The only dashboard that can be removed without taking out the windshield that I know of is the '65-'66 with "buttons". The buttons are plastic covers which stick on the face of the mounting screws.

Okay, so my question is......once the windshield is out, (my 1982 911SC) then my bentley manual states to take the 5 scews along the forward edge of the dash by the defrosters out, yup, did that, then Bentley says "take 7 nuts off the back side to remove the dash." (they don't show diagram or arrows/pictures"

Do you have to gut all your henting/ventilation gear to access these 7 nuts? Are they on the "Bottom side, of the flat mounted top dash"? or more on the vertical fire wall where the dash gauges are mounted?

I'm lost at this step, can't find the nuts, and its driving me nuts.

thanks for any tips.

I'm guessing that its referencing the nuts that you access from the trunk area. I can't recall 7 of them though. One on each corner of the dash, one each on either side of the the dash vents and I think two in the area in between the vent and passenger nuts. Must be one more between the drivers side of the dash vent and the guage pod.

Some are a little fiddly to get at but not too bad. Reach towards the dash from the trunk and feel around. Start with the ones in the extreme drivers and passenger side corners to get an idea of where they are located.

Yes, for the most part, and yes. There are studs protruding from the bottom of the dash through the chassis with nuts on them. You might be able to get a couple of them through the gauges. The number of dash studs varied over the years, too, so keep that in mind if you think you've got them all and the dash still won't come out.

Dashes. Why would you have to remove the windshield? When i thought deeper about it, some of the ones I did already had the windshield out, but some didnt.
