1982 cam timing hp increase?
i have to check my timing chains and tensioners because of high mileage, do i understand correctly that advancing the cam timing 6 degrees will boost my horsepower to the European spec? (204 from 184) or am i just dreaming!

Less brakes, more gas!

I don't think that is the answer... for a few reasons... ROW cars have different fuel distributors and pistons so if you don't change those as well you will not get the 204 you were thinking of. I'm pretty sure the valve and intake runner sizes were the same that year. If you just changed the pistons you might get pretty close though.

The cam timing will move the peak/ power torque up/or down by RPM`s slightly but according to Bruce Anderson and his storied research on the subject, smack dab in the middle of spec is about the best. Opinions vary but it isn`t the cam timing that separates the USA/Euro car power differences..

9.3:1 pistons for US.
9.8:1 pistons for ROW. Cams and ports the same. Peak HP @ 5500rpm for both US-180 and ROW-204 Peal Torque @ 4200rpm for both US-175 and ROW-189 Must be the pistons. Maybe something in the exhaust.

Hi Mike, It' not quite as simple as that. Yes, in general advanced cam timing helps low rpm power, retarded helps top end. But 3.0 liter cam timing has been all over the place, other things like cr and ignition timing and fuel mixture also affect the net results '76/77 RoW C3 930/02, 200hp@6000, 188lb-ft@4200, 1* BTDC , 8.0cr '78/79 RoW SC 930/03, 180hp@5500, 165NM@4200, 7* BTDC, 8.0cr '78/79 US SC 930/04, 180hp@5500, 175lb-ft@4200, 1* BTDC , 8.0cr '80 US 930/07, 180hp@5500, 175ft-lb@4200, 7* BTDC, 9.3cr '80 RoW 930/09, 188hp@5500, 175ft-lb@4200, 7* BTDC, 8.6cr '81-83 US 930/16, 180hp@5500, 175NM@4200, 1* BTDC, 9.3cr '81-83 RoW 930/10, 204hp@5900, 189ft-lb@4200, 1* BTDC, 9.8cr
