Need help with grease gun

I bought the grease gun offered here at PP:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/ShopCart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_CAT575_pg3.htm

I like the gun, but the tip is almost impossible to remove the grease nozzle from the zerk fitting. I have already broke one of my zerk fittings on my ER polybronze bushings. I have looked carefully at the unit. The instructions are sparse. It says nothing about attaching and releasing the gun/nozzle to a grease fitting. I do not see a spring action lever or button to release the zerk fitting.

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone make a quick release nozzle to make the on/off step much easier?

Help!!!!

The grease guns that I have had and still have look pretty much like that one shown, except I always change out the hard pipe, and install one of the flex hose kits. The zerk tightness can be adjusted on some by rotating the shroud at the tip. Think of it sort of like a drill chuck, turn it one way it tightens up, turn it the other way it loosens the grip on the zerk fittings. Have you tried to adjust yours? Good luck!! Tony.

Yeah I need to get a flex-hose / 90 degree end on my grease gun too... the way I installed my Poly-Bronzes, the pass / rear is near impossible to get to with my stubby gun.

It is early JW, but he has ER polybronze. Surprised you didn't catch that.

Mark, the tip should be somewhat adjustable, but some just take a big yank to remove. One thing that can happen is that the grease itself is creating a connection. It can't be a vacuum, because fluids don't behave that way. But think that way anyway and pull the gun off while you're applying pressure to the pump arm.

I have the flexible hose installed. Does not help much. The amount of force needed to remove the nozzle from the grease fitting is unbelievable. I checked the tip. It is not adjustable.

Send it back. They should work better than that.

Could be the zerk is overly large. The ones that used to come, and may still do, on the polybronze bushings were an odd size.

I've always have a bit a difficulty with just one of the rear ER zerks (mounted at the same angle on the other side). I've got an adjustable regular tip and also one of the 90 degree slide on type attached to a flexible hose and they don't really help much. 7 are a snap, but that one has always been a PITA.

Zerk fittings come in various sizes. The business end of the grease gun should fit in snug with a gentle 'click'. If not, its the wrong size. Same concept as an air line fitting.

Go to NAPA or one of the others and get a replacement tip, most good brands are adjustable I just checked mine.
