Those big fat rubber bumper guard add-on things hanging out off the rear! I've gotta get rid of those.

I don't have any verified #'s but:

1. The pair of trailing arms have to be pushing 40lbs. Maybe I am wrong on that one becuase I always pick them up with the bearings, wheel hub, and rotor still attached. They always feel heavy.

2. The doors with the windows included have to weigh darn close to 40 lbs each. At least in an SC with the added impact resistance and power windows. As a naked shell I doubt they weigh 40 lbs individually though.

Eact bumper on an impact bumper car.

A G50 over a 915.

A mag trans and motor case compared to aluminum ones.

Front steel hood with hinges and shocks.

The galvanizing and rust treatment on the newer body shells.

Maybe the rear iron disk brake hats, parking brake parts, dust shield, and cast iron calipers.

Steel front fenders with lights.

The easiest thing to lighten would be the driver!

Although it does not weigh forty pounds, a full windshield washer tank anchored high up inside the driver's side front fender on a Carrera 3.2 is heavy. I don't have my manual handy, but it must weigh at least 8-10 pounds.

Yeah that thing is huge. I am working on my front bumper and just took the washer tank out. I am thinking of keeping it out and putting a bag in the front trunk like what was used on 60's mustangs. Wonder if that is possible?

I just pulled the washer fluid tank and left it out.

Rich76-911:

I simply deleted the tank, pump, and all associated lines.

It all happened the same weekend I removed my complete A/C, interior, spare, jack, battery, "badd a$$ stereo system", etc...

I appreciate air-cooled 911's that are bone stock and in near showroom condition. Almost any 25+ year old "time warp" car is cool to look at. But, when it comes to actual driving, a Carrera 3.2 or any other impact bumper 911 stripped of nearly 400 lbs is vastly more entertaining to drive than in stock trim.

This is an early car.

I guess I don't mind people noting bumper car stuff - but let's try to keep it to 40 lb. or more of concentrated wt.

The tank does not have a huge amt. of oil in it when the car is running. If you think 4 Qts. is not a good estimate, post your estimate and how it was arrived at.

I usually hear people give estimates of 36 to 38 lbs. for the sunroof - I might color it in tho - along with the seats (26 lbs. each - Recaro SE).

It is not at all easy to make the driver lighter...

The stock muffler is quite heavy. Maybe not 40lbs, but there is savings to be had in an important area to reduce weight.
