Am I happy with the paint job? Good question....overall yes, obviously it isn't a high end job, but the finish is pretty good.....I don't think I would have the time to do it again though, work kinda gets in the way these days:) Chris |
I'm a designer too- I saw the illustrator sketches on the second page and figured you were in the design field. I did some work for Puma in the states just out of school but moved on to product.
Great job on the build! I love the work! |
Amazing work Chris! Nice to see someone apply the paint this way on something as curvaceous as this-can't wait to see the relatively final iteration. Was this your first attempt at restoration or have you done other cars?

That is the ABSOLUTELY COOLEST thing I have ever seen!!! |
awesome,nice work Jury ;)

I love everything about this project.
I think that the drilled pixel script on the decklid would be fantastic! You may want to do this as a decal to make sure YOU like it. You could almost run a backer in a different color to really ad depth to the concept. |

Very nice work! Joe A |
Wow! Just found this thread but I'm really impressed. Moved twice and still managed to create this. This thread should have a Porsche P.rn warning sign! Very curious about the engine you will be using!
|
I studied and graduated in Engineering Product Design and am really enjoying you build thread and really like your approach to making your car individual.
Keeping an idea simple all the way to the end is a lot harder than it looks, good effort and well done. The dot lettering is very clever, shame only those in the know wouldn't be able to see it but I'm sure they'll get it when they hear your exhaust note. |
You all will hate me...and i know this isn't a vote, but, my vote is for the small lettering under the grill. The Porsche lettering, either a decal or drilled, doesn't do it for me. I'm at the point that it's so common, and we all know it's a Porsche, as does the entire civilised world, that it's just not needed. Less is more. But that's me. Most others obviously disagree, judging from the amount of "porsche" and "Carrera" graphics I see.

This is the plan for the motor. 2litre VW type 4 running on weber 44IDF carbs and DTM shroud, mated to the 901 gearbox. The quote is that it will produce 145-150bhp at the wheels. I am all ready to go ahead and order the build with help from... MTM Käferschmiede, Restauration, Teile, Service und mehr für luftgekühlte Volkswagen ...then decided to buy a new house, so need to juggle some finances:rolleyes: The engine as ordered minus the heaters.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270149551.jpg ...and how it should look installed.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270149613.jpg Thanks Chris |
Very cool! Are you an American workingin Germany? If so, you might talk to Jake Raby, as well. He is the "guru" of all things Type IV and if you are dropping this kind of cash, might be worth a look:

I've actually been thinking about something like this for my 356 Outlaw |
Nearly...I'm a Brit working in Germany:)
Done alot of research on Jake Raby and realise I should have pulled my finger out and got in touch with Jake when I was working in the states. The order in Germany still hasn't been finalised and with my new house move I may have some more time. The deal I have is pretty good from a renowned German builder, so I feel fairly confident Thanks Chris |
Off topic, but is Adrian Leek still with Addidas?
I was a neighbor when he and Trish lived in Allentown Pa. |
I really don't understand the appeal of the Type IV motor unless you build it BIG and do something about the restrictive exhaust ports.
If you are only shooting for 150 HP, you can achieve that easily with a 2.0 liter Type 1 motor and have half the cost of the T-IV. Plus it will be lighter. A 82 X 90.5mm Type 1 with 9:1 compression, Engle FK-8 cam (or similar), 44 IDF's and a nice set of CNC ported heads would make 150 hp all day long. In fact, CB Performance sells a complete kit of all brand new parts (including case)...out the door for $3,600 US...spend $600 to have it assembled and you are ready to roll. And before someone jumps in and starts preaching that the Type IV is going to last longer...BS. There is no reason that a good T-1 with reasonable compression and a new case will no tbe bullet-proof if assembled correctly and driven by someone who knows not to lug the engine. Anyway...my uninvited 2 cents... :D. Great project! |

Agree and like the small as well. Makes you look a bit harder and you see the wording and realize its really special! |
