A drive ruined
Yesterday I needed to pick up my daughter at the station, a lovely 60 mile drive through fast mountain roads and a fast blast on the autoroute. It was a lovely winter day, (That was yesterday, today we're snowed in), in short perfect Porsche weather. I was "making progress" listening to Pavarotti with earphones and generally looking forward to the rest of the drive, a girly afternoon with my daughter and then the drive back together.
I was driving on or slightly over the speedlimit when I came upon a couple in an econobox, no big deal normally except these two needed to use the whole width of the road to make it around a bend whlst slowing right down. Esssentially they were marginally competent motorists in a mediocre car driving outside the city for the first time on a weekend break and now on their way home. I had to stay behind them for a mile or so until I had a point where I could safely pass, when I could I floored it. A couple of miles further on I slowed right down as I was approaching a stretch where the police often place control points and on a nice day like this I took it for granted they would be out and they were! A blonde in a loud, ratty, old, borderline legal sports car - you can imagine if I wasn't pulled over, but no big deal, I wasn't doing anything wrong and my papers were all in order. A polite greeting, a request for my documents and then a cigarette with one of the cops whilst his partner did a check on my papers. After a couple of minutes the couple in the crap box rolled along. From their ear to ear grins I guess they thought I was stopped for speeding. "Oh well" I thought, they can roll along back to their lives and their home turf and tell their friends how the smarmy blonde in the race car, that passed them dangerously in the mountains, was righteously stopped by the police. I admit when the police bid me goodbye I tried to catch them up but the "Griswolds" were long gone. Being stopped for a document check is par for the course but those two grins took the edge off the day. Sometimes non-car and non-gun people make me puke. Anyone else get annoyed by complete strangers for no good reason?

I get annoyed when there are no pictures of you and your car on a beautiful mountain road!

on a daily basis, but especially in the 911. like you, I expect the cops to pick me out of a crowd of speeders before another car, so I typically try to keep to the posted limits in certain areas. on one such occasion, I was going about 8 mph over the limit, passing cars, but still got the headlight flash and beeps from some teenybopper in her POS nissan. both she and her friend were chatting away on their phones. eventually I pulled back into the slow lane and let them pass. got flipped the bird as they passed. pissed me off to no end. was very tempted to drop into 3rd and blow by them - luckily I didn't because there was a cop sitting on top of my exit ramp's overpass.

I have, admittedly stupidly, passed someone on the highway doing the slowpoke crawl...only to realize I drove past my own exit! Well, at least they did not know I was an idiot. Left lane creepers annoy the he!! out of me and on the highways I frequent (Texas and Oklahoma) it's very often pickup truck drivers who do this. Of course we have a lot of pickups around here so statistically it may make sense.

You'll get over it
![]() I had a cop chase me down on Sunday for a foolish (but fun) power slide when making a right turn. Everyone who saw my move must have been delighted to see the cop pull out behind me and chase me down at a high rate of speed. Too bad they too far back to see the cop pull up beside me, give me a dirty look, and speed away! It's nice to be a clean cut, graying haired guy in a 930 when it comes to cops

Isabo, you shouldn't let a 2 second glance by a couple of boring people ruin your day!
Oddly enough, in all the years I have owned my red 911 I have never been pulled over.

Last summer I was on a 2 lane road and stuck behind a guy in a Camaro doing 50 in a 55. As soon as I had an opening, I floored it and pulled around him in a passing zone. Before I was completely back in the right lane, a cop up ahead with a radar gun flipped on his lights and pulled me over (clocked me at 73), right in front of the idiot in the Camaro. I'm sure he was having a good laugh at that. Too bad he never knew I was let off with a warning.

I hate those PORSCHE owners that think they own the road because they drive a PORSCHE.

A Pox on 'em.
A pox on all, fast lane, self appointed speed control officers..........!!!!!!!! These guys must have been hall monitors in grade school. They actually make make the system far more dangerous for all concerned.
Sometimes a little flash of the lights because maybe they're engrossed on the phone? I usually get the finger. No wonder there is so much road rage in California. Scott

I agree on the slow-poke in the fast lane, but in my case I was doing nearly 70, while cars in the slow lane were only doing about 50 -55 (going up hill at the time)
