P258 Any intrest in a repo.

I have been toying with this in my head for a year now and finally sat down and have gotten this going....If I were to make a batch of these how much if any intrest would there be? They would be made from measurments of a real P258 and would include the set blocks for 901/911 & 915 and would include the sleeves for the bearings etc. I still have quite a bit of work to do and haven't got a price worked out. If your intrested let me know....

Ok, I will confess that I am an idiot about trannys (and a few other things - like women). What exactly is a P258 and what does it do?

It's for setting Pinion depth.

As for a price not sure depends on how many diffs I have to find....

John what parts are you needing??

the P258 is the super expensive magic tool that you have to have to do a real complete trans. rebuild - is that right?

Not that P258 is all that cheap, but the ultra expensive magic tool you're thinking of is VW 385 I believe? It looks like this

I'd be interested in a P258, as i'll need it for a G50 Note that VW 385 is the tool that now supersedes the P258. Not cheap either.........

Here's some more information to let people know what this tool is all about, and why they may want to buy one

P258 Tool NLA Gary Fairbanks Custom Tool

There's some good threads on using, or not using, this tool

915 ring and pinion whine

915 carrier bearing change

Thanks!

I haven't come up with a price yet due to a few unknowns like Metric dial indicators the steel stock for the bearing sleeves etc... I'm going to try my hardest to keep them under 400.00 and that will be complete ready to go. We have a whole barn full of early 911/914 transmissions so finding diffs isn't a big deal If I get enough intrest I might just make it a core situation...

I have a couple of 915's I will be rebuilding. Would love to have the tool. Put me down for a set if the price isn't too much.

Guy's I'm getting closer on these all is left to do is the knurled handle......I guess I need a head count on how many people are still interested. looks like they are going to be 500.00 it takes alot more machine shop hours then I first thought it would take. The tool will include a metric dial indicator.

Thanks,
Tony
