What will break on my 20 year old 930?
In a few days, my 1989 930 will be 20 years old.
I own this car since a few months now and love driving it for short and long trips. It has around 100.000 km and shows no problems so far but I was wondering what will / could / may break on it in the future so I could plan some preventive maintenance (other than the standard Porsche one). What parts have you changed, what are the items that have an average life span, what is your experience with this car related to the parts you should better change? I would hate to be left on the side of the road in some remote location (even in front of a Porsche Center by the way ;-)). |

CV Boots, brake lines. My car was the same age when I bought it five years ago. Most reliable car I've ever owned. Goes through the rear tires pretty quick though.

Anything made out of rubber in the engine compartment should be replaced.

If due diligence has been done concerning maintenance during the car's life then nothing will break.
At 20 yrs you will see things like the starter, alternator, odometer and your clock will stop working (if it hasn't already - ha!)

Everything.....eventually.
Entropy rules. But seriously folks, +1 on the link posted above by Barrpete, as I've found it extremely useful. |

A collapsed cam chain tensioner took out my 78 930 motor.
Do you have the updated Carrera tensioners? |

![]() Just keep replacing stuff as it wears out, and it'll last forever. My tub had 237,000 miles on the odometer when the odometer stopped working...
