Iphone Dyno results thread
I recently acquired an ipod touch and dynolicious, to try measure my acceleration and HP output on the recently rebuilt SC. I did not get a chance to do many runs, and my best 0-60 time so far is 7.58s, with a peak HP of 127 () calculated with a weight of 2590# and a drivetrain loss of 15% (both estimated). I wanted to share and see what others can get with this interesting software.

That is the coolest thing ever. Is it an app you download off of itunes?

RevLite is free I think. Haven't had a chance to try it though.
|
Hmmm......maybe you oughta talk to the guy who rebuilt your engine? :p
|
It really takes a full second to shift gears? Is that a 915 thing?
|
All air-cooled p-cars benefit from a pause between gears, not necessarily a 915 thing. Each driver shifts different, and each trans has its own needs.
My question is: how sensitive and how fast is the accelerometer in an iphone? My guess is that these weren't criteria of the designers when they were working on it, but who knows? |
Ed,
The i-phone did better than a G-tech, and the numbers are comparable to a static dyno. I posted some videos and comparisons in this thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/448210-anybody-using-dynolicious.html Obviously in my case, 127 hp is wrong. I don`t think I screwed up my rebuild so bad, and 7.58s for 0-60 takes more than that. The weight must be off, I forgot to add my own and I don`t know exactly how much my car weighs. |
Unless you entered the 2590 wrong, I don't see how it could be so far off? 2590 may be a little light, but you should be in the ballpark.
|
I had the drivetrain loss set at 0. I recalculated with a 15% loss, and a weight of 2760# (adding my own weight). That gives 150 hp. Still low, but I may not have pushed rpms high enough in third gear.
|
Better run for HP
Here is another run, with a different approach: pushing third gear to the max, till the power actually dropped. Now, I get 202 hp with 15% drivetrain loss and 2760#. Not my best acceleration though, you can see I slipped the clutch in first.

Your best numbers should come in the gear with the closest 1:1 ratio from looking at your chart third gear maybe the one or likely fourth check your gear chart, what gear box do you have?

Have you done something to lighten you car?
I think a 78 coupe is supposed to weigh 2700 without an air-conditioner. I suspect targa's might be more. I went to the local dump/transfer station and got a prety good weigh in on my 85 coupe. It came in at 2800 lbs w 7&8/16" wheels. Cool tool. |
I just bought my son an I touch, I think I'll order the software as you said Aurel for the price, I might buy both! Oh, I see it works on an IPod as well, sweet!

A little help please.
I downloaded the application, I can see it on my computer as an application, but I sync my IPod and it doesn't appear. No applications section appears on my IPod. I restored my IPod to factory specs and I get the same thing. I try dragging the app. down to IPod and it gives me a circle with diagonal line through it symbol, like it doesn't like it. Any love here |

I downloaded mine directly from the ipod with the app store icon, through my wireless internet. |
Thanks, it's just a regular IPod. I'll have to use my son's Touch.

Dynolicious
Dynolicious at $13 is certainly cheaper than a G-Tech Pro at $299. Likewise, Greenfinder, even at $35, is way cheaper than a Sky Caddie at $399. A real money-saver, that iPhone!;)
Anyway, here's the first run for my (stock) '87 930. 5.5 sec and 285 HP is pretty close to what the owners manual claims. Dynolicious seems fairly accurate, all things considered! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1230709208.jpg |
