I bought a 13mm short stack universal 3/8" drive as mentioned in the Wayne book... seems to work fine.. a bent wrench may work as well but I haven't really tried that. my car has the 3.2L motor so this may not apply to your car.

not sure which year you have, but my 67 SWB needs a special tool - sold by our host - to reach thru the holes in the h/e to get to the inaccessible bits. I just ordered one, and am PB Blasting my heart out in prep. good luck...td

6 mm (I think, it could be 8mm) allen socket. I bought an extra long allen wrench from Sears, cut off the right angle part, slip it into a 6mm socket, exposy it in, and there is your special tool for less than 1/2 the price.

oh, you are talking about the allen headed barrel nuts.. any long allen tool (of correct size) will work, I just went and checked my tool box.. I have a long 10mm and long 8mm.. so I think the exh. allen is 8mm. the 10mm is for the head nuts.

Thanks to all who replied. The car is a 1977 911s. The nuts in question are not the allen type. Will try the universal approach. If not gotta bite the bullet. Roger

Talking 77 911

The 77 uses thermal reactor or the candelabra. There is close quarters there and much of the time the studs come out too. That is the long studs of the 80 to 83 and I think for extra clearance they used 12 mm nuts instead of 13mm
