What should I check up in new arrive 930?
Hi,
I just have my new baby home! First time Turbo in classic shape - production year 1988! As I similar to early natural aspirated 911's I like to ask what I should first to see in my 930 ? Of course all standard places from 911 I will check up . But need advice according all 930 subjects, car looks perfect, drive perfect as well. I will make some photos and upload here next days.

Shoulda had it checked before you brought it home.
Leakdown/compression test would be a start. |

I agree with Das, should have had it checked first. You don’t know if you have a money pit or a solid car and things can get very expensive very quickly on a 930

Make sure it has Carrera Tensioner, not having them cost me a 930 motor.
Valve adjustment, maintenance and make sure everything is at spec. Have injectors cleaned at a diesel shop & checked for balance. Then verify Air Fuel Ratios on a dyno. If you are going to push is, CO or Air Fuel Ratios should be adjusted from winter to summer temperatures. CIS dose compensate for air flow but not so well for air density. Best mod is the lowest back pressure muffler you can live with for faster boost and some HP. (M&K right side exit is very nice.) Then make sure you are getting .85 bar boost in upper gears (euro spec). A turbo from a 91-94 C2 turbo (K27-7200) is a nice up grade and very well matched to a mostly stock 930. The HF's can make big HP but do not come in as fast and hard. |

930 - production year 1988?
If it's an '88 911 Turbo, then it should have the oil fed tensioners - no? If it's a '78 930, then that's a different story. I would definitely change the oil/filter.

Tommy:
Please add your location to your profile. Where has the car been? Has it sat or been used regularly? Dry or humid climate? Odometer reading? I guess we need more info. Hope it works out! Paul.

Compression is OK, this was proof before. Oil change suspension set up will be done next days. But for me most important are thinks just belong to turbo engine . It has 140.000 km means ca. 80.000 mil. Pls wait for pictures as I laying with cold and try to rescue my health
As you see I have 2 other Porsche rebuild by myself to ( hope) rely good condition. (see my threads about rebuild early targa) So once more your idea where to look in my new 930. By the way it was fast decision.... As from my point of view this car is in good overall condition. Probably best 930 I saw before in real! But need to know where this cars have week places, etc. I was and still I am early porsche man. So need some education.... ![]()

So have you driven it yet? Typical things like does it reach peak boost in 3rd? I wouldn't necessarily try it in 1st or 2nd as things are happening real fast. Does it have a stock boost gauge? If aftermaket in the clock hole it is easy to see if it gets up to .8. There can be numerous places it could have gasket leaks that keeps it from reaching peak boost.

I would check:
Brake pads/rotors and hoses if all OK flush the system. Play on steering and bushings. Any kind of vibration at speed, darting, wondering nose? Oil temps while in traffic or spirited drining. Obviously change oil, gas, and air filters and fresh oil. Transaxle play and CV boots. Consistency on four corners (t bars and shocks) If it smokes - why? Bad leaks. Valves clearance Good luck and be cautious with the boost until familiar with it. |

So some details about my new toy.
Model 1988 Euro specification ( I am in Europe...) black on black paint code L700 ( black) interior code VD (black full leather) without cat with 40% diff and so on. One thing missing - original Fuchs rims - instead Aevo 7 and 9 x 17 . Good news good shape interior as well as body. ( hope that engine too... will see soon) ![]()
