Question Cylinder head temperature sensor removal

I am currently stripping down 1985 Carrera 3.2 engine and am not sure how to remove the cylinder head temp sensor. There is insufficient clearance to get an open ended spanner in. Is the technique to cut the wire on the basis I should replace the sensor anyway?! If so how do I tighten the new (replacement) item as the wire to the sensor prevents a socket being used? Do I need another special tool??!!

Just cut the wire if your going to replace it, grind a slot in a deep socket to install the new one.

Cut the old wire off.

Use a 14MM socket to remove.

Get a cheap, 13MM deep socket and Grind a little over 1/4" (MM equivalent) down the side to just before the ratchet base connection. The slot is for the new wire so you can install and torque, do not just hand tighten, it will come loose.

Take care the heat shields has sharp edges. Some have removed the shock for better access but not necessary if you have skinny arms like me. I would use some carb cleaner or anything that will dry out after applying it to the rubber grommet/plug. It is the toughest part to place in.

Cheers!

Seems like a waste to ruin the sensor. Would be cheaper to grind a slot into a cheap socket. I got mine off after trying a few wrenches. It was still a really tight fit.

Higsy - Just curious - is that the 1-wire or two-wire sensor you have there? The 2-wire is the later version. Why are you removing it?

Just read you're "stripping" the engine. Was this sensor mal-functioning?
