What are you guys doing with bolt, studs etc? Is getting them re-plated in fact cheaper than buying new ones?

"........As far as cleaning my case, I used a red shop cloth, with mineral spirits. I then used a mild detergent, rinsed with water, blow dryed with shop air. Then, I used about 400 red shop towels and about 2 to 3 cans of the big Mothers Al polish (jewelers rouge), and the buffed to a nice shine. I cleaned all of the oil passages, etc... I estimate that I have between 160 to 180 hours worth of time into the case..... but when you dont have enough money to build the motor right then.... it was time well spent as it kept me interested in the project..... Garp,
I had 20 lbs of hardware (nuts, bolts, washers and small brackets, etc.) plated, Yellow Zinc, for just over $200 USD. The small stuff is fairly cheap, but once you start adding larger parts, it ramps up quickly.

regards,

Al

Great, nice to see an almost finished project. What are you going to do once she's done? No fear of the black hole? ;)

A few pics of what I've been up to so far. I realize I'm beyond help. More to come...
