How anal have you been during reconditioning/re-spray/while in there ?

Where do/did you stop and draw the line ? I find myself looking at parts which are more or less okay and then decide to just order a new one. I'm spending a lot of time on redoing/painting parts that will never see daylight again.
The impact absorbers are the latest object of my compulsive disorder. I want them to look new with shiny paint and new bolts.
Please share your story and assure me that I'm not the only one out there.

I don't have the funds to do allot of reordering with parts so I spend more time cleaning and painting. It's a hobby right?

Draw the line? Anal?? Compulsive disorder??? You have definitely landed on the right website. ;)

Just be careful, you don't want to end up where your car is so pristine that you are afraid to drive it.....unless you are one of those people, not that there is anything wrong with that.

whiskyb 02-03-2009 03:44 PM

I am just starting to go down this road. i received all my suspension back from being blasted today. Have started on a project list here at pelican that seems to grow each day. Oh well it beats shovelling snow

DUK 02-03-2009 03:44 PM

Garp, I have no idea what you mean. What is this "anal retentive" thing?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/347633-progress-report.html

I'm still in the closet with this, my 2 previous 911's were no garage queens but I have feeling it might be different this time.

Don Gilbert, love your sig. Those fenders remind me of the FVD package.

Very entertaining read, this thread.......and there is something a person can take for that "retentive" condition............the "disease" is a whole 'nutha ballgame, I fear.

SteveinTO 02-04-2009 09:57 PM

I always thought it was all the "civilians" that were "sick." They're the ones driving Ford Explorers. Probably never powdered coated a lower A-arm in their lives, let alone agonized over what shade of black to use.

Do you have any recommendations on what shade to use, I've been loosing sleep over this. Much obliged :p

Gonna just fix bodywork and paint, ok! You are among some of the best I am always amazed at the level of work that is done on this board.

I just used Rustoleum Gloss Black and have felt bad ever since. Sent the wifey to the movies & "baked" them in the oven. Caught hell. Kabuki Theater at our house. Ritualistic almost. Predictable.

Does cutting the rear quarterpanels/flares off so you can better remove old paint in the wheel wells/oil lines count as being anal? :D I actually cut them off to go narrow from RS flares, but now they flares aren't going on until everything is raw and clean.

Actually, I think that's one of the least anal things I've heard about you doing. Narrow = good.

Now, 911 engine building...

There's no return after the first stage. You can only hope to keep it under control at best. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/pint1.gif

You might still be in the closet. A lot will depend on future endeavours, there might still be hope but don't hold your breath for it. SmileWavy

I think we have ourselves a hardcore anal performer right here. No mistakes. I can picture your grin when you read the title of this thread -->"How anal have you been while in there ?" Something tells me we can learn a lot from you.

This is not anal, I just wanted to clean my throttle bodies and next thing I know, I'm at the platers, then I'm refurbing the bodies, then everything else went to the powdercoaters...does the aircleaner look a little dirty to you??? oh well..............maybe i'm a little puckered up.

Hey Al, your car is looking REALLY good!!! Can't wait to see it someday.

Did you end up doing your plating at the place in Kent? I hope you were happy with them...the parts look good. I am having them do some chroming now so I hope that turns out well.

al lkosmal 02-17-2009 09:34 AM

Thanks Chris,
You set the bar pretty high, so I appreciate your comments. Your latest project looks like it's turning out right. The seats are amazing. I'm trying to keep my nose to the grindstone and finish this car. So close... but I'm at that point where I'm doing a lot, then getting sidetracked with life, than back at it again. I did use the platers that you recommended. I'm happy with the results. Let me know how the chrome turns out. i have a few pieces that need chrome plating too. horn grilles, rear window latches, etc. I have local place that i can go to, but I'm hearing mixed reviews regarding their work.
