Oregon Porsche owners...HEADS UP
Moderator, move this to OT or politics forum if you must. However, this should be important to all car guys. These ideas spread from one state to another like wildfire...
So you thought Big Brother wasn't coming after your car or pickup? Read this, and then please contact everyone on this committee. First it will be limits on tire sizes and suspension. Then it will be horsepower limits. Then we'll be forced into hybrids or electric cars, all in the name of "man-caused global warming" which is a giant fraud. Oregon Introduces Bill to Prohibit Sale of Aftermarket Parts At the request of Governor Theodore Kulongoski, the Oregon Speaker of the House has introduced legislation (H.B. 2186) to prohibit the sale and distribution of aftermarket motor vehicle parts if alternatives are available that "decrease greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles." The bill is primarily focused on aftermarket tires and would authorize the Environmental Quality Commission to implement enforcement regulations, likely based on a rolling resistance calculation. We Urge You to Contact Oregon Speaker of the House Dave Hunt and Members of the Environment and Water Committee (Contact Information Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 2186 * H.B. 2186 would regulate vehicle fuel economy, an authority reserved to the federal government. * H.B. 2186 could ban tires that may have improved performance, handling or appearance features, based solely on a rolling resistance rating. In addition, this program could easily distract consumers from focusing on more important safety issues such as tire inflation and overloading of vehicles. * H.B. 2186 would force consumers to purchase only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tires because the program essentially exempts OEM-selected tires and unfairly implies that they are superior to aftermarket products. * H.B. 2186 could prohibit aftermarket parts designed to either personalize or optimize specific vehicle performance attributes including handling, towing, suspension, fuel economy, etc. * H.B. 2186 provides broad authority to government regulators and could limit a range of aftermarket parts currently available to consumers based on the subjective determination of government regulators. * DON'T DELAY! Please contact Oregon Speaker Dave Hunt and the House Environment and Water Committee immediately to urge his opposition to H.B. 2186. This arrived from a drag racing friend, but if ever there was a time for all car guys to unite, regardless of vehicle preference, it's now. Yep, these things can spread like wildfire...I posted this on an off road forum as well..

Elections have consequences. If you elect pro-socialist, environmental extremists then don't be surprised if they act that way.
Is this an Example of Change that We can Believe in?

![]() Oregon has become really crazy like this over the last 10 years or so. Sadly, this latest tidbit doesn't surprise me at all. ...Yet another reason we're moving down to Texas later this year.

OEM tires? This concerns me for those with 356's, early 911's, and how about the hot rod set with their deuce coupes, old muscle cars, '40 Fords, etc.? How to get "OEM" for the old stuff?
But then, the "green" set wants everybody to drive a hybrid, right?

wow! that trumps the craziness of california even. i guess i should not say such as on law makers will want some. prolly a good thing for companies like AIM tire. a race tire shop at a race track may be exempt and able to get other tires??
the move to dedicated track car looks better and better every day.

What a smart decision in such a booming economy. Let's figure out a way we can eliminate even more jobs and companies. We should just outlaw dirt, and be done with it.

this is becoming silly now. what can be better for the environment than making a car last 50 years?

The lack of concern for the environment displayed by some of your responses makes me want to quit this forum. You can be a "car guy" and still care about your world. The original poster's assertion that "man-caused global warming" is a giant fraud followed by one maybe two valid points demonstrates a lack of critical thinking.

Yes, but tell me how it's going to help the environment to force me to take off the new-technology Michelin tires off of my 911, and try to find the tires that were originally supplied in 1973.
