filling the unwanted mounting holes in a 911 bumper

I realize the best way to fill the bumperette mounting holes would be to weld em, but has anyone used a filler that has done the job ?

By doing the job, I mean withstood several yrs of use and heat cycles with no adverse issues, shrinkage ,paint issues etc?

That damn bumper gets quite hot in the summer, and i dont want to fill it with substandard material , paint it, and then have it look like a bubble gum outa the shoebox job..

check the "modified bumpers thread". I think someone tried JB Weld and it did not hold up.

I used JB weld on mine 4 years ago and still looks fine. The JB weld shrinks as it dries so be patient, wait a few days before painting and fill with more JB as needed.

I think you've answered your own question...

I'm sure with care and the right product you could fill the holes but as you said welding is the best way.

Someone will chime in with a product that will do the job.

The problem is that you're filling "smallish" holes... The filler/mud/bondo/JB Weld doesn't have a lot of surface area to adhere to.

If you glued on some pieces of aluminium on the blind side of the holes that would help support the filler.
Maybe you could "funnel out" both side of the hole to help lock the filler it in place???

Just some ideas but it may be easier to have a local garage or workshop weld them up for you.

There is a Radiator repair shop near my house. They make custom radiators and inter-coolers for turbos.
They welded two pieces of alloy together for me and the only charged me $50.
The weld was about 6 inches long. Sounds expensive but they did a great job.

Thanks guys ......I do have a local weld shop that is user friendly, so I'll check them out, a backer plate then fill, dry fill seems to be a good solution as well.

IMO, if you're going to spend the time to prep and paint your bumper then you you should spring for the $25-$50 to have a couple holes welded shut. Then it's done right and no worries.

always wanted to try this product. HTS2000 brazing/welding rods... fills aluminum holes with a torch and bridges gaps. Might work.
