Turbo RSR project

Want to introduce my project. One of my favorites has been the 934 turbo rsr. My goal to build a track car that mimics the 934 on the outside but do my own thing on the rest of the car. For several obvious reasons no water intercooler or flat fan.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236057215.jpg
Started with 1978 Euro 930
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236057643.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236057830.jpg

Several months of gutting it all out and some cleaning and some mods in front for oil cooler and cut out rear seat area.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236058273.jpg
Cleaned, prepped and some PPG epoxy primer on underside and inside. And a big thank you to Lars (speedo) for the use of his rotisserie.
Next it was off to Greg and Orrin at Eurosport LTD to put 935 ERP suspension, rear pivot boxes, coilovers, and centerloks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236059048.jpg
Reed did nice work of renforcing around plate mounts and front sway mounts
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236059198.jpg/http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1236059941.jpg
From here its over to Hank at Hanksville Hot Rods for cage work. Will update pics on cage next .

Sweet! Centerlocks to boot! Where did you find the centerlocks? Original pieces? Do you plan to do a full 'baby' 935 conversion or just convert to a 934?

You might find a new home in the 930 forum - a few of us Group 4 & 5 nuts would really appreciate the details and progress info. There are a few 934 styled cars there as well.

Reaper930 03-02-2009 09:45 PM

Also what size tire you running up front? 11's? :)

kenikh 03-02-2009 09:46 PM

You'll be able to buy centerlocks on Pelican very soon. :)

Kroggers 03-02-2009 09:50 PM

Nice project. What will you do with the rear seat area?

Reaper930 03-02-2009 09:51 PM

I was kinda hoping they had a story behind them...

tadman 03-03-2009 04:03 AM

Centerlocks

Centerlocks as I understand will become easier to come across, people like Joe Torres who I got my brake hats from has them and Zuffenhaus makes some. Got my rear centerlocks from Ben at Retro-Sport some they had and the fronts were extras from a 924 Holbert/ Bundy car Greg Johnson has here at Eurosport LTD. Below is pic of Holbert Racing 924. Wonder where its wheels are well, you probably guessed on my car until I get my wheels together. Bob Barnes who I got the early BBS E56 centers from has helped me alot on the setup aspect. Pic of the earlier centers I am using. Fronts 5"inners 5" outers for now and rears 6"inners and 7.5 outers, but that could all change. Project seems to know where its going it just has'nt told me yet.

Reaper930 03-03-2009 07:01 AM

Awesome! I got my magnesium centers from Bob Barnes also and my shop had some real 935 centerlocks and we had custom hats done. This was the kind of story I was speaking of :) Zuffenhaus is having 917 style 5 spoke centerlocks made later this year I think, and those would really make the baby turbo look for sure!

Are you going to do a rear window overlay with the big wing setup?

911teo 03-03-2009 07:53 AM

Awesome project.

The 934 is my favourite Porsche....

As per the flat fan.... check this link...

http://www.baileyedwardscars.co.za/FOR_SALE.HTML

I realize it is not cheap, but neither is a set of the centerlock hubs you just bought...

And it would make your car look so sweet.

The guy that builds them is a perfectionist. I have heard only good things about him...

BTW 1$=10.5261 ZAR as of right now ;) so a drop in the ocean when you look at the entire project :D

tadman 03-03-2009 08:04 AM

934 - 934.5

Baby turbo rsr would be neat but I was taken by the 934 look at Daytona 77-78, watched Gregg and Busby in a Brumos car. Also like the 934.5 that Gregg drove, it was in Excellance recently. Burton Kremer 934 has neat graphic too.
Whats fun about going this route is 934's evolved to 934.5's and some even became 935's so maybe I'll gradually move up the chain, options , I like options but thats the neat thing about the 911 platform in general.

Nice!!

Tad,

Great looking project. Keep us posted on the progress. I look forward to seeing the new updated pics after the shop.

Flat fan

Matteo, thanks for the info on flat fans, have'nt heard of this guy but looks like nice work. It would be nice touch but can't swing it at this point, I am already like an expectant father as Orrin at Eurosport labeled me, can't wait to get car running.

jpnovak 03-03-2009 09:08 AM

I think you need narrower wheels or bigger flares. :)

Nice looking project.

I think the 934 add-onn flares are going to be mounted to the 930 shell/fenders...

tadman 03-03-2009 09:22 AM

flares

When I get car back home will cut out fenders to accomodate bolt on flares. This pic was an early mock up just for grins.

Miguel Antonett 03-03-2009 12:21 PM

Nice project...

Are you reinforcing the coilover housing plates?

tadman 03-03-2009 06:15 PM

shock towers?

If you are refering to additional plate around shock towers, defintely and the cage will come into play in these areas as well.

Reaper930 03-03-2009 10:45 PM

Tadman: Too cool man - glad you're going for it all out! Here's some pics for inspiration from the real thing.

Paul that looks like Matt D's 934:

tadman 03-04-2009 03:27 AM

Not sure exactly but its a factory 934 not a customer car so I'd think it was the continental, but again, not 100% on that one.

tadman 03-04-2009 08:32 AM

Engine

Well engine was interesting, I took it out by myself, much more bulky and awkward than earlier 911 engines I had messed with. The case has no serial#, must have been a factory replacement, anybody see that very often? Anyway I disassembled engine and took it to Greg Johnson at Eurosport LTD in Englewood CO to do the rebuild. So far we are at the point case has been gone over and shuffle pinned, parts have been coated. Case modified to fit gt3 oil pump. Going with Mahle 3.4 ltr pistons, Carillo rods, 964 cams, Euro cis for now. For a turbo leaning toward K27HFS , Garrett not ruled out. Porting heads probably next.

odog 03-04-2009 09:08 AM

Looks like a nice daily commuter yer building there...j/k

Get the real wheels mounted & built yet?

t6dpilot 03-04-2009 09:35 AM

Very nice project. Looks like you started with a pretty clean chassis.

tadman 03-04-2009 09:39 AM

Commuter

It should commute fine from the pits onto the track!!! waiting for some rim pieces to put rear wheels together.

SCHNELE 03-04-2009 10:02 AM

Get the Garrett you won't regret it.

Very nice build, should be a lot of fun!

There are a few of those non-numbered cases floating around. The factory replacements come unstamped. I have one on the shelf as well.. pretty much in the same state as yours with the same parts to build. Lucky for me it's a spare as it won't be going together this year, still looking into various EFI systems and searching my pants pockets for spare change!:D

Good luck..

Fenders cut out and fiberglass fitment

Got the car back from cage work being done. pics of reinforced shock towers in the rear and front

Fender work

Cut out the fenders today and working out the fit of the fiberglass flares. Clecko tool sure makes fitment easier, holding parts in place

That is looking really good. coming together nicely.
I would be very interested in some additional pictures of the new rear seat cover that you have done. Would you mind posting some more pictures and details?

Reaper930 04-03-2009 10:07 PM

Lookin' good! Are you going to resize the rear wheels to fill the rear quarter out a little more?
