Engine compartment of new cars

I was watching a review of the new 911 on MotorWeek today. They showed a view of the engine compartment.

Holy Cow!

I wonder why they even bother with a lid.

Yeah alot of supercars I guess you cant even open the engine lid the dealer has to do it. I was watching a video I think it was a Mclaren they were going on about how it would still be around and cherished 50 years down the road then went on to show the infotainment system with all its buttons on a giant tv screen and the engine is only accesable by the dealer. What a load of hooey

The use of Plastic engine covers drives me a bit crazy. I had no idea a new 911 had those in place. That’s alarming! What’s the purpose? Is it the marketing dept’s that don’t want to confuse or scare away their potential buyers? Is there an industry award that I don’t know about that honors the most creative cover? Maybe that’s where new performance cars hide their speaker system that makes synthetic engine noises when you press the gas pedal...

I also have a 2018 911S. Just to change the oil you have to remove all that stuff to get to the oil filter. I still DIY it but I think a lot of people aren't even competent enough to change the oil in these cars anymore.

It is where you add coolant if low. The two knobs on the left are fluid reservoirs. Nothing else to see but the fans. I thing the air filter is changed from the top as well.

Tail lights and bumper cover need to be removed to R&R air filters...

I just looked over these instructions. This is just plain loony, I'll never go there. Looks like a $500 dealer job.

if you think deferred maintenance is a plague on older models........

Probably a godsend to the waxer crowd, looks like you could polish it up.

I'm not sure I'd be competent enough to top off the oil.
