Electrify my 930 to keep cat off?
Seems if I hook up 24v source to my old 930 when it is in the garage the cat will not be inclined to sleep on its roof. Anyone ever do this? Sure, I could crank it up to 120v or more but I like the cat - when she is not on top of the car. Any thoughts on Porsche Electrification? Maybe Obama will give me some stimulus money (Your tax dollars) to pursue this noble project? Any input?

I'd hook up a 110v source to the cat, that would prevent it from sleeping on the roof of the 930...but that's just me.

how will you complete the circuit? For current to flow, the cat has to touch 24V and ground, no? If the cat is on the car, I don't see that happening.
Well, unless you tether the cat to a constant ground, but if you use that approach, why not just make the tether short enough that the cat can't reach the car. Doug

To train cats to keep off counters, etc. there is now a motion-activated air blast device - it essentially releases compressed air at a high rate whenever the detector detects motion. It's called SSSCat.
Cats hate high pressure noise / blasts and this is very effective. Place three on your car (may require clay to steady on rear decklid / hood) and in about one week the cat will never jump on the car again. Here's the link: http://www.multivet.net/en/products/ssscat/

For better or worse, paint makes a pretty good insulator. The cat is, no doubt, jumping up onto the car which would mean you'd need to attach a grounding strap to the cat for it to work anyway. Won't work for the same reason birds can sit on power lines.

Try putting a cloth on the car with double sticky tape on top. The cat won't like its fur sticking to the sticky stuff. It'll still love you but learn that the car isn't a nice place for napping. The current won't work unless the cat can short a circuit.
I put some slatted affair atop my covered cars that made it downrighr uncomfortable for the cat to sleep and solved the problem. Dan |

I think this is the most simple solution.

Just try an ordinary house fan, pointed at the roof of the car. Or a burlap bag and the river.

I still like the 110v to the cat. Who doesn't want some hot p***y on their Porsche?

Good lord, is "pussy" obscene? (Reminds me of the time in Louisiana that I saw a vending machine in a gas station restroom that said, "$1, live pussy shots." I didn't fall for it, but if I had, I'm sure I'd have gotten a photo of a kitten.)

Not to me but I chose to edit for those that might be offended.

"Venny" My cat always sleeps on the roof of my car. I don't like it but I like Venny.
He does a good job of keeping the house and yard mice free. So I figure I'll let him do it until he damages the paint... So far he hasn't made a single mark. I like the way he can walk on the bulge that runs along the side of my P car. All the way from the tail to the front head light... It's a sight to see ![]() |

I would think a blast of air might cause the cat to leap off the car and make scratches. Something more passive, IMO.
Or, you could build a grid so that a circuit can be made. I once took a long, cheap extension cord and stripped back the insulation about 8 feet on the hot and the neutral. Then I fanned them out on the grass facing each other, but not touching. I figured I made a field that would be crossed once, but far from lethal. You know, cat haters are like people in PARF. Left and right, no middle ground. At least you don't have squirrels or mice making nests on your cylinders. Get a cover and a blanket for the roof. |

Two words: "Scat Mat". Comes in different sizes and gives the cat a little static-electric zap when he lands on the pad. Designed to keep dogs/cats off furniture or from entering a specific room. Cat will learn quickly not to land on the pad, even when it's turned off (they even have "dummy" mats for multiple locations)...
