1970 Engine number

I have a lead on a 1970 911. The car is about 300 miles from me and I'm trying to figure out some basic info before i decide to make the drive to see it. The seller has provided the VIN number, which I'm pretty certain is for a 1970 911T. The engine number is 6108833, which would seem to be for a 1970 911E, but I'm not entirely sure. Any enlightenment would be appreciated. Happy July 4th!

That engine serial number would make it for a 1970, 911T w/Sportomatic (USA)

Regards,

Al

Thanks Al. I looked at the Red Book and I had some confusion about whether the engine number is for a T or an E. We're on vacation and I don't have a technical spec book here.

Hi, there seems to be a mistake in the red book for engine numbers for the 1970 models specifically the "E"s. They seem to have been classified under SPORTMATIC which I later verified through other books was erroneous. If we were to follow the Red Book, then there were more SPORTMATIC 911s then the manual units which seem impossible. I know there's another thread somewhere that agrees with this observation. Not sure if its here on the Pelican Forum or the 911S Registry. Just my two cents..

Red Book seems to have a couple of errors, as I know it has incorrect engine numbers for 69E as well.
