Aluminum "S" Caliper Question

Is there any difference in the Aluminum Calipers that came on the '69-'73 year cars to the '76-'77 turbo cars and on to the 911SC's ?
Are the castings the same ? Are the rebuild kits the same ? Are the pads the same size for all ?

Thanks for the information,

Woody

there were 2 versions of S calipers, early and late, which are beefier on one side.

Left came off a 75 US Carrera, Right came off a 69S. Wondering is the later version was better, especially on a normally-powered early car. There must be a 300+ pound difference between a 77 Turbo and a 69E, which the caliper on the left are slated for.

Thanks Shawn, your posting really shows the difference in the casting of the caliper body.
One would assume the larger casting will allow for greater heat transfer ? Agreed ?

It also appears the pad size is the same ?

Thanks again,

WP

a little extra heat xfer, yes, and I think the later may be a little stiffer.

Some early SC's came with aluminum S calipers. The installations appear to have been random.

This was probably just to allow Porsche use up the leftover inventory, since the Turbo's from 78 on had transitioned to the 4 piston calipers, the S calipers were no longer needed.

Jerry Kroeger

No SC ever came w/ S calipers. The factory changed to the A's starting w/ the '76 Carrera 3.0. The last use of S oem was on the '77 930
