Fuchs Center Cap Resto Before and After

I know it has been done...and done...and done...but I simply had to post some pics of my before and afters on the refurbishment of my center caps. Started out with a orbital sander and 300 grit, then hand sand with 500, then 800, then polishing with mag paste, and polishing, and polishing...

...the other half said I shouldn't complain as repetitive stroking motions never seemed to bother me before!

Mid Process

Final Product

You know I always wondered what the holes were for - until I started shopping for a replacement cap for one I recently lost. Most of yall probably know but it was news to me - there's a special little tool that's made to remove the center caps and it has prongs on it that go into the holes to pull the thing off without having to pry at the edges.

And another bit of wheel-cap trivia that's probably old news to most - per Porsche specs, when these are placed on the wheel, the bottom point on the crest is supposed to be pointed at the valve stem.

And if it isn't, you lose points in a Concours.

I'm holding off on the final wheel pics for (hopefully) a week. It appears that the Fuchs were repainted without the anodized coating so my goal is to get them stripped and polished by the end of next weekend. Rest assured though, I will either be posting pictures of my success or seeking sympathy from the forums for my lack of paint removal/polishing skill!

I also have removed the rear turbo wing that was on it and purchased replacement badging, deck lid grill, and mounting hardware. The deck lid itself is to go to the body shop on Monday for sanding/painting and I should have it back by the following Monday. Hopefully, I will have some good revised pics then.

As a side note, I am going to try to sell the wing, it's in very good condition. What do you think would be the best medium by which to sell it (forum, ebay, craigslist, etc...)

I'm not so much to make a profit but just get my money out of returning it to what it was originally. What should I ask for it?

...a solid piece of trivia indeed! I will impress all my "seasoned" Porsche friends when I correct them on their cap positions!

I am going out to the Garage right now and fix mine! oh wait! I don't have the special tool-guess I will have to do it the old fashioned way. Neat trivia to know. I will be looking at each car at Parade this year and pointing out the errors.
