Shock absorbers - which type do you prefer?

Since I'm going to have my shock absorbers replaced soon, I would like to hear what you guys prefer. I'm thinking about a set of Koni yellow Sports. Will they be firmer than a set of Boge? I prefer a firm suspension, but not racing hard.

Considering logevity and how firm/hard the suspension will be, which are the best choise, Boge, Bilstein or Koni?

If anyone has had any bad experiences with any of the above mentioned brands please let me know.

My car is a 1984 911 Carrera 3.2

There are various mounting configurations, so your car may accept one brand of shocks and not the others (without modifications). This could simplify your decision.

But to answer your question (and with all due respect to Koni), superheros prefer Bilsteins.

I think only Bilstein and Boge front strut inserts are interchangable. Koni requires a unique insert so if you don't have Koni's now, changing to them will take some $$ b/c of the need for a different steering knuckle assembly.

Try www.shox.com
They have the best prices around for shocks.
A set of 4 Bilstein Sports is just over $400!!

Nick.

Have to agree... Bilstein Sports did the trick for me and handle very nicely. Hard to beat and I hear that they last forever.

I've used em all over the years.
But, now on all my German cars, it Bilsteins, exclusively.

I wish I had known the bilsteins had been so cheap!
I have already purchased and fitted Koni sport adjustable rears (yellow). And if I do not sell the car in the next few months will fit the fronts. But I am concerned about all these posts commenting on extra $$$$$ for fitting. I have the black Boge originals.
Paragon (excellence) mention nothing of bad fit or kits needed to install, althought the fronts are more expensive if I remember right?.
Has anyone fitted the Koni sport yellows on Carrera?

Saw some front Koni's for sale on Rennlist. I think they were for Boge struts.

The reason that I'm after the Konis is that I can get them at a much lower price than the Bilsteins (remember that I work at a car dealership).

I went to www.Koni.de where there's a great chart showing what dampers will fit Porsches. It seems that the yellow sport ones can fit straight onto a 3.2 with Boge setup. They are inserts for Boge it seems.

Only one thing surprised me. The fronts are gas filled and the rears hydraulic (oil filled?). What do you think of that?

Cool

Konis are very good shocks too. I used to have 'em. I liked 'em.

You're choosing between two really great shocks, Mikkel. For street driving, especially, you really can't lose with either Bilsteins or Konis.
