Ran and stalled after replacing hood struts

I can't figure this out.

I replaced the front and rear hood and truck struts. After doing so the I started the car, 86 911 3.2, and it ran for about 15 seconds and seemed to run out of gas. I can't figure out what I might have messed up while replacing the struts. I did lay a shop light on top the motor but not for long. I did some basic checks but can't figure it out. This car always runs great.

Thanks for the help.

Garage
Check the fuel pump relay up front ,the big red one, you may have knocked it loose while messing with the other stuff.

Unless you disconnected something...pure coincidence.

Could be the DME relay or ref and/or speed sensor. Possibly the CHT.

Do a search - many threads and posts on these possibilities. Do you have the Bentley manual? You may have to conduct some diagnostics to determine the cause of your problem.

Coil and distributor connections okay?

I did check the fuses up front but not the relay. I'll see.

Coil and distributor connections seem fine.

I have a shop book and started there. There wasn't a section for clumsy folks.

Thanks.

Do you hear a whine coming from up front when the key is in the run position? This would be the fuel pump working. If no whine go back to your relays and make sure to push on them. I have had my fuel pump relay vibrate out and not make contact but visually looked fine.

On a DME car for the fuel pump to run the engine has to be turning.

Ah, sorry for that and thank you for correcting me.

Try putting your old shocks back in and see if it starts

Does you car have an alarm/gas cut off system (30sec relay...) ? May be you disconnected it while working around...

Loose wire on cylinder head temperature sensor connector was the cause.

Could this really prevent the car from running???

After I fixed the wire it started right up.

Yes it would. An incorrect signal from the CHT sensor may produce either a very rich or very lean condition causing a no-start.

Do you have the 1-wire or 2-wire CHT sensor? If the 1-wire, then suggest you upgrade to the later 2-wire sensor for better grounding and overall performance.

Glad you found the fix.
