How to plug hole for thermoswitch on carrera style external/front oil cooler?
Hi everybody,
Long time lurker here... it's actually the first time I can't find an answer to one of my questions using the search button. I have a '79SC and I'm in the process of updating to a carrera late-style external/front oil cooler. I was wondering if something (any kind of bolt - if so, which thread size) could be used to plug the hole for the thermoswitch on the oil cooler itself. I don't plan on running a fan for now, so I'd rather not spend $40 on a thermoswitch that will be there just to plug a hole in the cooler. Any ideas are welcome. Otherwise I'll just buy the thermoswitch and call it a day. Regards, Serge in Montreal. ![]() Last edited by sam961; 04-29-2009 at 06:10 AM.. |

If you have an old thermostat switch just leave it there and don't wire it up for the electrical connection... If you don't have the thermostat switch then go your Porsche dealer, ask to see a plug and it probably has the thread size on the box then go to a specialty hardware store and buy a plug on the same dimensions and plug up the hole. (If you can't find a plug, see if any dealers in your area have a non-functioning thermostat laying around and use it to plug the hole.

i don't have a cooler here to check the hole size, but i think it's the same size as the plug or sender that is used on the right chain housing cover. 14 X 1.50. with a aluminum or copper 14mm sealing ring.

plugs
Serge, take a look at our website we make alot of block off plugs for engine/trans. 14x1.5, 12x1.0, 12x1.5, 18x1.5 (reverse switch), 18x1.5, also -6 fittings to do the cam feed fittings
if it is the same as the chain box sensor plug we have them. Mike Bruns JBRacing.com

Thank you ljowdy, John and Mike.
I now have options: some sort of M14*1.5 bolt, JB Racing plug or splurge and buy the actual thermoswitch. Will report back. |
