Installed new window switch - now battery drains?
1980 ROW 911SC,
Last week I installed a new driver's side window switch from our host, and now the battery seems to have a slow drain. Both windows are working perfectly. I was careful to install the wires in the same locations, but it is possible that I may have mixed up the middle two wires  Is it possible for this to cause a slow drain? Seems like a long-shot I know, but I did not have a battery drain until I installed the switch. Perhaps it is just a coincidence... Any suggestions? Safe Motoring!

Couple of things...I just installed power windows in my SC. The latest crop of switches seem to be crap. I had three new units and had to massage two of them to get them to return to a center off position. Second thing to check is the additional power window relay that lives behind the gauges up there near the flasher relay. Not all of the early cars have them. Their purpose is to allow the windows to operate when you open the doors. The relay is activated by the door jam buttons, so if the switch shorts then the relay is always on and will slowly drain the battery.

I will check the door jam buttons for shorting. Yes, the new switches are garbage, one of the connection tabs fell apart during installation, so I had to jam it back on, plus the finish is quite dull compared to OEM units.

Hmmm, now that you have confessed to 'jammin' the terminal back on the problem might be in the switch.

Thanks. The jamming involved adding some very small gauge wire to help hold the pin in the sleeve.
Perhaps there is a short, but if that is the case, shouldn't the window go up or down without touching the switch? Maybe the battery is on the way out, but it is quite strange - the battery seems completely dead but only 5 minutes on the charger provides enough energy to start the car ?
