It Started !!!

well after replacing all fluids, checking for a spark and other misc. stuff we turned the key and it started ('74 911). only let it run for about 10 seconds. lots of blue smoke out the tail pipe. now there is oil (yes definitely oil) dripping out of a couple rust holes in the muffler. any ideas why oil is dripping out of the muffler????

How long had the car been sitting? Did you take the plugs out and turn it over?

Sometimes oil will syphon into the crankcase and pass the rings if the car sits a long time.

the car has been sitting for about 8 years. we did turn it over without the plugs in to verify spark.

I would suspect that the oil passed the rings and so escaped through the exhaust valves that were opened and filled the muffler.

Looks like it's time for an "Italian Tune-up" Might want to warn the neighbors LOL.

You could and probably should take off the rear valance and just replace the muffler. If it has holes in it there is no need to keep it and I wouldn't try to drive off all that oil it could catch fire. If its dripping that is way too much to try and drive off. You could also take off the headers and allow them to drip free of oil too by just hanging them. Have you checked to see if your head studs are still on the engine?
