Engine compartment seal question

Hi all! I am getting ready to re install the engine in my 72. The perimeter rubber seal (original) has 2 lips. What is the correct arrangement of this seal against the engine tin? One lip up and one down? Two up? two down? Thanks !

In the condition they are usually in after 25 years or so... however it appears to seal best.
