Zorin,

I know exactly how you feel. I haven't driven my 911 since Mar 24 after getting read ended then blowing the engine after getting it back from the body shop. It is currently getting an engine rebuild. I expect to get it back sometime next week. Can't wait. I'm addicted.

Good luck to yours!

Not defending, just requesting a little restraint. I know, it's hard to ask for with all the rabid indignation and "It's not my engine, I'll jump on the bandwagon" that exists on the internet. He/she's just asking for some restraint. . . I guess I'm just too old to be here anymore.

Coming from a guy that has had an engine rebuilt by MM, They deserve all the beating they can get. They are a joke!

I am so sorry to see this damage, but not surprised due to the "quality" of workmanship which is MM.

It appears, from this photo, that the case is cracked near the crank as well.
Please tell me I am wrong.

It is possible that the engine failed through no fault of MM. My question is this: Does MM deserve to be considered innocent until the root cause of the failure is determined?

Are we somehow impugning the name of a reputable engine rebuilder, and thereby harming his business? Or has their past performance removed our obligation to assume they are innocent?

I do not know exactly what happened, but I will say this: I would not be surprised to find that the quality of the work done by M/M was inferior and not acceptable. Beyond that, why does it even matter?

Yep...read the links I posted above. I think this is a case of "if it looks like a shoddy MM rebuild, quacks (or should I say self destructs) like a shoddy MM rebuild, then it's likely a shoddy MM rebuild".

Motormeister is NOT a reputable engine builder, and deserves to be out of business. Their past performance has removed them the right to be presumed innocent. Therefore, many here including myself will jump on any opportunity to spread the word on their shoddy work. Apparently nobody will sue them and they manage to remain in business, preying on the ignorance of some. Boards like this one are great to share experiences. It matters for everyone to know who are the reputable people to go to when they need an engine rebuilt, and who are the ones to avoid. MM may not even have done wrong on that particular motor, but it does not matter at this point, as they have ruined so many others.

Agreed! I too was a MM customer so I'm speaking from first hand experience. Fortunately I only purchased parts and not labor from these quacks.

These guys are shady!

On the upside, I'm sure you can sell most of the parts back to Roy..he knows how to re-use that stuff.

Sorry for the delay. I finally managed to open up the engine. Piston rod has broken and stuck in the engine so that it was very hard to take it apart. Yes, broken piston rod as seen in the photos. I have no idea what would cause this, detonation? In any case I replaced the doomed Motormesiter engine with a 3.2 L engine. I guess it was for the best.

Wow. That almost looks like a hydro-lock break. Painful. You will love the 3.2 though!

Ouch! Never seen a rod snap in half like that.

Are you going to move the carbs over to the 3.2, or did it come with the injection?

I have a question and dont mean to jump your thread but....

I just found out I have 2 broken studs.

Is there any theory out there about just fixing the engine and probably a top rebuild or should I see if I can throw a whole new bigger motor in it?

I have a 78sc with the 3.0 75k miles
