choclab,
You've got relatively low miles on your *known* engine, I'd just fix the head studs and perhaps a top end and drive the piss out of it.

I googled your name and Motor Meister and came up with: http://www.motormeister.com/suz/914_6/914_6engines_5.htm The caption states: "Thanks to his two sponsor's Motor Meister & Mrs. Newton!" I think that in the interest of full disclosure you should state that Motor Meister has sponsored you in the past... |

In the past, I have in full stated that. I have never, and never will try to hide my dealings with them. I still have the original 2.7 they built for my 914 racer (built in ~2000), and it still runs well. I know, I haven't had it open, and I'll probably find Buick parts in it when I do. . . My original contention remains: (and maybe a little stronger this time) If you don't like them don't do business with them. If you've never had any personal dealings with them and all your information is anecdotal, you don't count. As I've become older, I've learned that restraint is probably the best initial response. Restraint served me well while I was an active duty military officer and it certainly serves me well in my new career. Thanks for Google-ing me. I feel all warm and fuzzy. For Joe: I'd like to think that recommending restaint would put me in a different category from those who are inclined to ramp up and spew over every slight. And yes, I'll match my personal integrity against yours any day.

Don,
I have no doubt that MM actually knows how to properly build an engine. I would imagine they would put their best work into an engine for a race car they were sponsoring. The problem with MM is that they usually choose to build engines badly. Did you not read through the links to the FIRST HAND stories I posted earlier in this thread? The unrestrained reactions you see here is bitterness from witnessing the many Porsche owners who were soured on the marque because of their experiences with MM. Please read my linked threads of personal experiences and try to regard MM as anything but evil. |

Don: restraint is a good thing. It keeps us from blowing someone's head off because he bumps into you in the store isle. So that that extent, I agree that there are too many folks that love to jump on the bash X wagon.
Having said that, let me state that when I endorse a company, I am saying that my reputation is worth being put at stake for that company. If they screw up, then my judgment is as faulty as the company I endorsed. In short, if you endorse MM, then you are saying that your reputation is put up as collateral for theirs. Based on the vast array of bad testimonies, I am very leary of MM's quality and, in all honesty, would be leary of those that endorse them. It was not my place to comment as to whether it is your integrity I question. Please accept my apology.
