Labor time to replace intake runner boots?

I was wondering about how many hours you would expect a shop to charge to replace all 6 of the rubber boots that hold the airbox to the intake runners.

The engine is out and on the ground, I'm just looking for rough shop time to pull off the airbox and goodies in order to replace the 6 rubber boots and clamps, then put it all back together.

Why would you pay a shop to do that?

As a point of reference I just removed and replaced an intake (in the car) in about 6 hours total. So four hours maybe?

Long story can be found in my 'baffling clutch problem' thread. I had the transmission rebuilt which is beyond my tool box, and I had them throw a clutch in while it was apart. In the month that I had the car it was determined that these need to be replaced and are the source of a vacum leak. The shop has the motor out of the car, so I figured I'd just let them do it while the motor was out. It keeps me from having to fool with it.

Thanks John, that is what I was looking for. They have quoted me 4 to 5 hours. This is on a '77 Carrera 3.0 with CIS.

4-5 hours and the engine is already out is kind of excessive. probably includes nap time and lunch.

The 4 to 5 hours was just an estimate, so we'll wait and see what the total time is and what items they have to replace. I feel like I've gotten my money's worth in the past.

I did mine in about 3 hrs. with the engine out. That included quite a bit of cleaning and detailing stuff...

They ended up charging me for a full 5 hours to replace the intake runner boots with new ones. The motor was already out of the car.

if i had a tech that took 5 hours to do that job, he'd be out the door.

Their hourly rate is $85 and after several little issues I have decided not to use them any more. It's a shame too because I know and like the owners.

The Monkey was close.

In hindsight I sort of agree with Mr. Walker. Unless he was super-meticulous with cleaning/polishing stuff five is high.
