Can anyone confirm: front wheel hub depth '67 vs later

Bob67S on the Early S registry seems to imply that these skinny mysto-hubs were made by Fuchs for Porsche in order to allow a wider wheel set-up. I guess it would theoretically allow the car to gain a small advantage on the track while fooling the "scrutineers". I have no clue, but it sounds cool.

Also, some threads are implying dyslexia with respect to the part number. See pics of the Fuchs casting number and the part number that clearly shows 605 rather than the more common 065. Any PET experts reading this?

"casting numbers" are a manufacturing identifier

"Part numbers" are a catalog inventory number usually just a paper tag, or a number on a shipping box. Superseded parts were "improved" and carry a updated part number.

Part Numbers:
The parts book refers to the first three digits as "Type" (900, 901, 911, 999, etc)
next may have been two or three digits indicating "Group" (Motors are group 1, front axle is group 4, etc)
next three digits are the "Part" Eric has corrected me (see below) last digit even = right, odd digit = left (Good catch Eric)
Last set of digit(s) can indicate modification sequence .

Reading the casting number has always been a "easy mistake" when looking for the part number. Some times the two numbers are similar but most times they may be "650" and "065" apart. (Pun intended - wink -wink -nudge -nudge)

Fitment by racers who find stock parts that can be re-purposed and skirt the intent of "stock" has always been a exercise in creative thinking. No-where near the escapades of Nascar but it did filter to SCCA racers.... and the 911. (think upside down transmissions, moved engine height and on an on).

And in this case race prep shops who knew how to get tires to fit - made slight adjustments for their other clients street cars.

I usually find left or rights in the third grouping and updates to the last sequence.

My car has the "605" hubs.

Front wheel bearing - inspecting and parts questions

I'm curious if these hubs are original to the car or not. I believe they are. The grease caps Pelican sells that claim they are compatible are not. They are the innie style and the outie style are needed.
