Any experience with Vertex Auto engine rebuilds?
Hi -
I'm looking at purchasing an SC that has had a recent (last 1000 miles or so) engine rebuild performed by Vertex Auto in Miami. Does anyone have any experience with their engine rebuilds or other service? From searching it sounds like their service may not be the most detail-focused, but I'd be interested to hear any experience. Do they do acceptable rebuilds or should I run away? Car had ~175k before the rebuild and it was a full top/bottom rebuild. I'm waiting to receive copies of the rebuild receipts. Feel free to post or PM me. Also, out of respect for our host and the relevance of this thread, please refrain from discussing their retail business. I'm not really interested in that, just their repair/rebuild service. Thanks, Andy |

Firstly, I personally have not had an engine done by them, nor would I. Regardless of who touched the engine, they may or may not have done the work correctly which is why you want to take it to a recommended shop for an independant pre-purchase inspection (PPI). Take along copies of any and all records to the PPI. They can do the compression and leakdown and give it a front to back inside out inspection. It is worth the money to have this done and avoid a bad car. Depending on the location of the car, ask a question on this board for a recommendation for a reputable shop to do the inspection. Good luck.

I've only seen a fan assembly from them and I wasn't too impressed. The factory fan is a very nice unit that is balanced. The one from Vertex looked ok from the front, but when you looked in the back, there were lots of holes drilled in the center section to balance it out. I'd be concerned about what kind of stuff was used in the rebuild.

Run Forest, run.
Don't just take my word for it, call a handful of P-mechanics and get a 30 second opinion on anything rebuilt by Vertex. The tranny "rebuilds" are notorious. Flipped synchros and re-assembled from junk parts.

Wasn't there a negative thread on these guys a month ago that got locked down/deleted by Wayne very quickly?
