Question re: ignition wires? Help...

Just installed new Clewett Eng. wires and new spark plugs, rotor and dist. cap. Thank God it started when complete and ran perfect as this was my first time doing this. What a pain in the arse it is getting the spark plug wires onto the plugs, particularly plug no. 4. Arggggh. I digress.

So, question is, the Beru wires had five locations where the wires were held in place by plastic retainer clamshells. Are these necessary to keep the wires apart or can they be eliminated, as the new wires don't fit properly since the shielding/insulation is of greater diameter. Is it necessary to keep the wires from touching anything like the body? It didn't seem to effect performance, but want to make sure I don't get spark jump, grounding etc.

The one (clamshell holder) under the AC compressor is the worst location for this as it is impossible to remove without taking out the compressor. Any advice on how to get to that one without removing the compressor?

Also, can the wires 4,5,6 that pass over the fan be relocated just behind the fan shroud on the air intake plastic piece. If so, has anyone done that and what did you use to retain them on the plastic air intake?

Your help and advise is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.
