Project Carrera 3.2, progress so far.

A few of you guys on here may know my car. Had it for almost a year now so I thought I'd add some pics of the progress so far.
When I bought it:

Ouch! That's some serious looking rust.

teamfee3 05-19-2009 04:22 PM

Thanks for getting rid of the twists and tail. The twists never look right - it looks right now. I have signs of that rust spot, I would love to know what is involved ($ & time) getting it repaired.

looks so much better with the fuchs on

Bart_dood 05-19-2009 07:51 PM

Nice car, it looks so much better with the whale tale off and the fuchs on. I had forgotten how cars rust in England, I'm from there but been over in the US for 8 years now, rust is a 4 letter word in california that you don't hear.

ha...too funny. I was just sitting on the couch reading issue 180 of 911 & Porsche World. Is that you? If so...those wheels look great!

Hi, yes that's the car.
Have been to Classic Preservation and have a few more pics, will add them tomorrow.
It gets (a lot) worse before it gets better!

I think I am qualified to know what you are currently going through.

Mine is also an ex-UK car. Good luck, it will be worth it in the end.

PS my car is perfect now

That is a lot of rust for a galvanized car. It must have been driven through many salt covered roads during winter time. Then, once rust started to show it was ignored for too long and then spread.

I hope the price you paid for the car was reasonable. From the looks, you have a lot of metal work there and it won't be cheap to fix!

Good luck and keep the restoration pictures coming!

Yeah has it's fair share, but so do a lot of cars over here that have been used all their life. Majority of the rust was in areas that aren't visable until the strip down process begun, hence never being done in the past.
Restoration is now well underway and looking good, more pics soon.

Hmmm have had "some" engine and gearbox work done too, but more on that another time.

Hi, not really, but these photos may help:

I guess there are people on here who have undertaken this task and maybe of more assistance.
I hope this help.

You should remove the front windshield and really inspect the right and left lower corners of the windshield frame these often rust as well and result in water getting into the cabin above the glove box and the gauges. Have a good look at this area.

canamfan 05-27-2009 05:58 AM

Wowzah! Such a pretty looking car hiding some rust. Thank you for removing those twist wheels! Great to see yet another Carrera being pampered to it's former glory. Nice pics of your progress, BTW love that intake shine.
