Clutch Pedal

HI, I have couple of questions, hopefully you guys can help.

I have a new clutch with a new pressure plate. I installed it and it was fine. Meaning soft pedal that was engaging too far, so i went to a porsche shop and asked them to adjust the cable. They did, so the pedal became super hard. I thought it was normal after all this is my first 911. And i thought it was normal.., couple of days ago i drove my friends 911 3.2/915 and his was 10 times easier to depress also with a new clutch. That upset me a bit. I went back to the shop who did the adjustment and asked them about it. They said that there is no way the cable adjustment could have caused that. They also said that my pressure plate is bad. Meaning that when pressure plates are old then they get hard.

1) So i guess my question is...can the clutch cable be adjusted or loosen up a bit?

2) Is there maybe a pedal itself that can be adjusted?

3) is there a way to check the clutch itself without pulling it apart?

thanks in advance

p.s. i searched

What year is your buddy's 3.2? The later model 3.2's have a hydraulic clutch and would require a lot less effort to dis-engage the clutch.

Just making sure you are comparing Apples to Apples.

Edit:
Sorry, I missed the part about the 915. There are a number of things to check regarding a stiff clutch. Pedal bushings, the helper spring, etc. The springs can be visually checked from under the car. Binding of the pedal bushings can be checked by disengaging the clevis and rotating the pedal with out any load on it.

Do both of your 915s have "helper spring" assemblies?

If yours does not your clutch would understandably be harder to push.

Helper spring is there on both of our cars, can the helper spring be tighter on mine maybe? or they are all the same?

Remove the cable and see what condition it's in. The cable assembly is somewhat of a wear item and it's good to replace when a clutch job is done. Also make sure the cable is routed properly- consult a Bentley manual. If the cable is routed wrong, it will damage the cable and produce stiffness like you describe.
