Hi people.
I've got a bunch of questions about 901 engines: (not the new 911 engine, but the ones used '68 to mid/late 90s) How big are they: width (valvecover to valvecover), length (flywheel to back ?), height (oil "pan" to top of fan) ? How much do they weigh ? Do the large displacement engines weigh much more than the small ones ? How big is the clutch/flywheel on a 901 engine ? Does the cooling fan push air over the heads or pull it from underneath the car ? How are they at staying cool in hot applications at moderate power ? What about when they are turbocharged ? What direction does the engine turn ? What is the biggest displacement 901 one can build ? 3.4L ? How "thick" is the pancake, ie if it wasn't for the fan, intake and exhaust, how thick is the rest of the engine ? How far does the "oil pan" (I know it uses a dry sump system) extend below the bellhousing circle ? How many amps does the alternator put out ? (It is built into the fan, right ?) Are they all SOHCs or is there a DOHC engine ? Which engine parts are aluminum and which are steel ? Are the cases aluminum ? Are the cylinders ? Are the heads ? If there is a FAQ somewhere answering these questions, let me know. Thanks. KRL [This message has been edited by krl (edited 06-08-2001).] |
