'79 SC Flooded the engine, now it wont start H E L P

My '79 was parked behind my girlfriends car and I went to start it but did not notice that I left the A/C on when I shut it off an hour earlier. It started, stalled and won't re-start. I smell gas in the engine compartment and I'm 100% sure I flooded it by pressing down on the accelerator while trying to start it. I've tried 3 other times tonight and nothing, it cranks, wont start and smells of gas, WHAT DO I DO?
Is there a procedure to de-flood the engine?

Your biggest concern with this no-start is the possiblity of hydro-lock in the cylinders. Cranking the starter activates the cold start injector, and the vacuum created by the cranking raises the lever in the plenum of the throttle body causing the injectors to eject fuel. Under these circumstances, without the engine firing, flooding the cylinders can occur. That being said, the degree of flooding is not dependent on pushing the gas pedal down but on the turning of the engine without ignition.

Unless you cranked incessantly, your flooding may not be too serious, but for peace of mind you can remove the spark plugs, remove the fuel pump relay, and crank the engine over a bit to insure the cylinders move freely. Once you get the engine to start, be sure to change the oil as it probably has been diluted by the gasoline.

Your post sounds like you may have an ignition problem or possibly the pop-off valve is stuck open. Did the car backfire before it stalled? Do you have a popoff valve? Have you checked to see if you have spark? Let us know whatever you have found up to now.

is this a CIS engine? hard to "flood" it could be a ton of other things wrong like ignition. go through the engine fails to start checklist and make sure everything is working properly and don't pump the throttle on an injected car when starting!

To get you going, try removing the bellows above the sensor plate. Have your GF push the plate up while you turn the key.

You should always verify your ignition components are working correctly. Was yourAC actually running while the car was off? Sometimes the battery is run down enough so the starter will still crank but the ignition will not fire. Check for spark and/or battery output. You may need to charge it up.

Have you been having any other start problems? Maybe your mixture or fuel and control pressures are off, or your AAR is malfunctioning, or a vac leak

just take the plugs out, dry them off, reinstall and you should be good to go.

Do a search for "green wire".

The CDI checked out okay, it turned out to be the pick up coil. That is a different problem with the distributer. See my other post.
