Dumb Targa Question
When the weather is good, the Targa top stays unfolded in the garage.
When the weather is bad, the whole car stays in the garage. When the weather is questionable (say June gloom), I'm going to be out for a while, or otherwise want the top with me, I collapse it and put it on top of the back seats (folded down). My question - whats the best way to secure it, especially if I'm going into the twisties? I'm hesitant to put it in the trunk where it could bang the fuse panel and I don't like it sliding around behind me.

I put mine unfolded behing the front seats, it will fit, and you don't go folding the cloth material which causes it to crack. It doesn't slide around at all.

Hmm... mine won't fit behind the seats unfolded. I think my legs are too long for that. I generally keep the top folded in the trunk. It stays put pretty well. I've never opened the hood and found that the top has been moving around.
Frankly, I've never had any problems with the top moving around in the back seat either.

I usually place it sideways under the hood, or in the back seat area with the inside portion facing downwards. Never had it move around enough to worry.
If you plan to pull some G's the car is a bit more solid with the top on, anyway. Not as fun though, so I usually leave my top at home. Actually, when I lived in sunny California, I did not even have wipers on the car - they just burnt up in the sun & I never drove in rain anyway... ![]()

Hmm, I usually place it "outside" down. I'll try seeing if it fits unfolded behind me, driver seat is far enough forward. Otherwise, I'll rest it on its frame and see how that works out.
I'd prefer to leave it at home, but the Beach Cities have been questionable of late and I don't want to go to Big Bear and not have a way to get home w/o getting soaked this Saturday. Its not so much pulling G's as just mountain roads and having fun. If I went to a track, it would be either roof on, or roof stored in the pit.

I'm with the "put it behind the seats" crew. But then it's my only choice, seeing as the '75 had a non-folding hardtop.
But to be honest, the top hasn't been on the car in about a year, as I only drive it when the weather is nice. Which hasn't been often enough here in CO lately. ![]() --- Tom '75 Targa |

Funny, my 75 has the collapsible top... It also has a 79 engine, so I guess that's just one more thing that isn't stock.

I have found that by increasing your speed, the rain starts to fall on the rear targa window, and your need for a targa top lessens ... you stay dry and your targa top does not get damaged.

Put it in the trunk. It fits nicely, folded, longways across. It will be further back than the fuse box, so that is not a worry.

Folding top was available in '75.

Mine goes in the trunk - finesse it just right and it fits without folding (not sure if it would fit in a brake-boosted car, though).
A couple weeks ago I got caught about 15 miles from home in a massive downpour without the top. One of those thunderheads that sorta appears out of nowhere, dumps for 30 minutes, then leaves. I headed home in the deluge and stayed surprisingly dry. As long as you keep moving at a reasonable speed, most of the rain blows over the car and not into it. Was surprised how dry I was!

Trunk....Try not to fold it, if I don't have to. Or the back seat.
I was looking for that alternative top. Not sure what u call it, but its a temporary fix for parking. I usually don't bring it if I know where I am going. I am very coutious..etc..etc.. Walt |

Ok, that makes sense.
I do love the drive-faster approach... but it usually isn't an option in LA traffic. Last time I got caught in a freak rainstorm I bee-lined for the nearest parking garage. Back seats got wet but not too bad. Still, I can see the encounter now: "I'm sorry officer, I know I ran that red light but if I stop moving I get wet. You understand, right?" Thanks for all the inputs.
