Help w/e-brake and Speedometer
Newly acquired 1971 911t. Got it running pretty well and electrical mostly figured out. 2 remaining issues...
1. Speedometer/odometer are not working, have read up and know that best way to take it out is thru luggage compartment. However tried this yesterday and unable to access it b/c the air blower. How do i remove the air blower to access the rear of the speedometer? I can see the rear of the speedometer but can not reach it. 2. The brown and yellow wire that connects at the e-brake is disconnected from the e-brake, with the terminal still connected to it. So my question is, where does the connector/terminal for the brown/yellow wire go? A picture would be very helpful if possible, or good description. And one last thing, there is a switch to the right side of the steering column (kind of under the knob to reset the trip odometer), does anyone know what this is? Does not seem to do anything when pulled out or pushed in. Thanks.

Speedo first. I believe on the 71 that the speedo will pull out from the passenger compartment. I know very early cars (at least til 69), the gauges had clamps on the back that had to be accessed from the trunk as you describe. Maybe you know for certain (you should be able to see the back of the fuel gauge, at least, and notice if there is a clamp.) If no clamp, the speedo is held in by a rubber gasket, and will pry out. If there are clamps, it may be possible to remove the speaker grille and speaker, reach in and undo the clamp for the clock, remove the clock, and use that access to remove the Speedo--it's do-able.
If all else fails, removing the blower is fairly logical by looking at it, but is a PITA. You'll need to disconnect the flex tubes to the footwells and disconnect the cables to the levers on the blower housing, but it's not too difficult. The e-brake switch is located under the housing for the e-brake lever and you'll have to unbolt the e-brake handle to access it. It's located on the passenger side of the brake handle housing.
