Painfully learned lessons......
For some odd reason after owning a Porsche for 2yrs I decided that I knew more about her than the boys that built her. I most certainly could improve upon her design, increase the horsepower, upgrade the wheels, add a tail.. blah blah blah... I guess I'm just an idiot because the more I do to her the more she gets pissed at me and acts up... I feel like I've somehow tampered with nature and broken some sacred law.. I may be overreacting but I am coming to the conclusion that these masterpieces were perfect when they left the factory... I'm sorry Butzi!! I'll think twice before messing with your baby again... Just get her to love me again...

No, but thanks for asking..
I made it home ok.. Drove 55 the whole way... I felt crippled.. It just seems that for everything I do to the car it takes three more things to meet my expectations... I will replace the cap, rotor, and points tomorrow then I'll drive it to Zotz Garage where supposedly the "best of the best" tech resides... I'll have him go over the whole engine. He'll then tell me if my vacuum advance system is working at all, whether or not he can just connect the vacuum hoses again or if he has to pull the engine to finally put to bed the timing, idling, and power loss issues I've been plagued with for the past few months.. "God, If your listening, could I please just win the lotto so I can buy a Carrera GT and a 2001 Turbo???" I'll be fine after I put these issues to bed.. Thanks again Warren....Everyone.... Pete |

Interesting observation Pete. From the things I have heard over the years and on this board it does seem that many mods have an equal and opposite reaction with other aspects of the vehicle. I am amazed that the good professor and his nephew and the engineers were able to build on the base vehicle in such an orderly and balanced fashion. These cars in the stock forms are marvels of engineering , grace and elegance and are great fun just the way they are!

No Jack, your fine!!!
You know what you're doing... I'm learning as I go and as I've stated, some lessons are painful... I need some kind of Vulcan mind meld deal so I can skip the learning phase and go straight to "Porsche Zen" Pete |

No Jack. Don't worry. He knows you own a Jaguar. That's punishment enough!

Okay here's the deal:
Yes, cars have feelings and you can piss them off. Buying another car ususally does hits. Jealousy, you know. And they're female, so you can rarely guess your next step accurately. Hear this also: If this 'best of the best' tech guy is up to that reputation, he will not need to remove your motor and will find several minor problems and one or two critical problems that will have your car running like it should. This should take from one to three hours. Other repairs taking longer are likely be suggested at that time, but a real good wrench can find and fix problems so quickly it is WELL worth the money. But good wrenches, sadly, are very very hard to find. Jack, you've left little to chance, and I like your chances with the Spirits. ------------------ '83 SC |

Well, I don't think we have to worry about the Ghost of Butzi, yet! Its' the Ghosts of Ferry and Ferdinand that might be on the prowl ... but I think they are still busy in Stuttgart, and will be for quite a while ...

Stick to the bible, the "Handbook" and you'll be fine. Venture off into experiment land and it will cost you.

And, under any circumstance, NEVER MENTION SELLING in her presence. You will encounter the wrath of the godombiles and have to sacrifice a small Toyota or something.

P-cars do have feelings. After the last PCA meeting, while driving down the road, I told my fiancee that I need a "newer" P-car instead of my 78SC. Well four days later on the way to the wedding cordinators she (the P-car) stopped running. Broken fuel pump cut-off switch installed by the owner, which I accidently found and discovered was the problem. I should have never doubted my 78SC and should have never made that statement in her presence. Even my fiancee told me not to speak that way in front of her (the SC). Jealousy - I believe so. I made it up to her though, a nice warm soapy bath, a waxing and a run through the hills.

Warren's right. If Ferry and Ferdinand are resting uneasy, it's those guys in Stuttgart and their behavior over the past severals years (maybe more) that's drawing their attention. Folks like Rarly are part of the solution, not part of the problem.
