parts arriving this week; need to know which to install first:

i ordered new ball cup socket, shift bushing, and shift coupler bushings last week... is there a particular order i should install these to insure a greater level of success?

also, if anyone has any hints related to these, i sure would appreciate it.

thanks-

Adam,

The ball cup and shift rod bushings should be done first, with plenty of moly grease. Be sure to mark the shifter housing and tunnel with spots of paint, so it can be put back in the same position.

Next, the coupler position on the shift rod should be marked with paint before the pinch bolt and set screw are loosened. A large bench vise and two sockets, one with a smaller OD than the cross-pin, and another with ID larger than the pin, can be used to remove the cross-pin and bushings. The new bushings are installed dry, and there is supposed to be some (1-2 mm) longitudinal play of the pin within the bushings, but no measureable axial play.

With the shifter and coupler installed in their original positions, no adjustment may be needed, or the amount will be small.

feel I should chip -in as it is one of the few jobs I have tackled with some success!.
The only things I will add or reiterate to what warren wrote are to DEFINATELY mark the where the pinch bolt tightens on to the shift rod as this is where I messed up!.
Trying to adjust and find that same spot again is vague.
I believe I have found it but believe I have no 'rotational play'.
No one has yet confirmed exactly where this play should be?.
On the gear stick?
If there is no play on the gear stick, is this detremental to the tranny?
Anyone?
thanks Ben
Oh yeah , and plenty of grease!
