Mounting an Optima battery
I understand that someone wrote up a procedure for mounting an Optima battery in an older 911 (mine is an '80 SC), but it is NLA on the Pelican site. It uses a plastic cutting board mounted to the bottom of the battery with four bolts & nuts, and to the floor of the tub with a bolt to the stock mounting hole.
Do any of you have this article, the cutting board template, and/or the correct battery part number? I understand that it is best to get the correct battery so that the poles are not reversed. Please email what you have to dbryant@structural-integrity.net. Thanks, Don

I've once had the "excitement" of a $3000 electrical dash fire in one of my cars...don't need that again, thank you !!

I did this and it worked great with my Optima red-top battery. My cutting board came from walmart and was black w/flecks in it. Very fashionable and cheap and functional and easy.

Mine has several other wires attached to the positive terminal to get direct power (all with their own fuse and relays as needed) rather than run them through the fuse panel. Is there a good cover I should be looking for that would do the job and cover all the extra wire connectors? Thanks.

I just now saw your ( rbuswell) question.....
I too have an Optima install and do have the pos cable covered. I bought a cablecover red "bootie" from the FLAPS...and had to cut/slice it, and then zip-tie it into place to be an effective cover. Still not what I think is a first-class looking solution....I may soon be looking for the semi-transparent tupperware containers and see if I can find one to modify that is close to the size of the whole battery top itself !.....work still in progress. Nonetheless....any effective insulation material, mounted properly, should work.

depending on how many connections you have and what gauge wire they are you may find something here to use.
http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Battery%20Terminals i use the lower set on one of my other cars and love it, but i used 0g wire with that setup. fast shipping and reasonably priced quality products. |

You might want to add a cutoff switch - on my to do list. I like this install.
