sway-bar mount keeps breaking

I have 22 mm Weltmeister f/r sway-bars on my '79 911 and I just broke off the rear mount. This was a reinforced mount, the original broke a while ago. The car also has 22/28 mm torsion bars. I usually run the rear bar almost fully tight. I have two questions:

1. What should I do so that I do not have this problem again?
2. Is running the sway-bar at full stiffness a bad idea?

Are you running reinforced mounts on both sides? What brand reinforced mounts are you using?

Yes, I am running reinforced mounts, I believe they are Weltmeister.

Buy the Wevo rear mounts. Pelican sells them.

The reinforced mounts are still just sheet metal. Use the Wevo for the last time. If they come loose it will be sheet metal tearing away as these are cast steel

I wonder if you ran a thicker rear torsion bar if it would solve some of the problem?

I have stiffer torsion bars and both mounts were welded twice before I replaced them with the Wevo. The factory mounts are sheet metal and just not up to the task. Doesn't make any difference if you just drive on the street or track the mount will eventually break.

It helps.

The worst offenders were the late Carreras with their larger sway bars, but still soft torsions, and most came with the wimpy Boge Turbo Gas shocks and struts. That put a lot of load on the sways.

sounds like the bar is pre-stressed.
do you have to muscle onto the drop links when attaching it?
the holes in the ends of the bar should line up with the drop link ends and just bolt right on.
years of road/track use can alter the factory body and suspension alignment and cause the placement to vary side-to-side.

Weltmeister has mounts that attach to the rear torsion tubes if one does not have the mounts welded in place. The welts torsion tube mounts are farther in which can cause the bar to flex more so most do not use them, I do and have had them for 15 years with out any issues. But you could add them so you have double the strength.

Hey, take a look at the side of the "frame" member that you are welding to. It's pretty thin. I added a doubler to it. Just a piece of sheetmetal with a lot of holes drilled in it. Stitch weld it on there then tack all the holes through to the metal on the car. THEN weld on your new mounts. It's bit more time but worth it.

I have the same sway bar on my car. The part that the sway bar link attaches to the torsion plate breaks. The left one broke last year and the right side broke this year.
