EFI Conversion Dilemma
I have a 81 SC which I have owned for about 5.5 years, and recently I have not had the time to drive it so I have been thinking about selling it.
After trying to fix some airbox leaks the car was running poorly so I took it Stuttgart Haus in Mooresville, NC (the closest shop) to have the idle / mixture / timing adjusted. It turns out that the airbox is still leaking and should be replaced. This will likely cost upwards of $1235 plus $225 for testing to diagnose any problems and then the cost of actually fixing any issues. My dilemma is that this brings me pretty close to the cost of the EFI conversion kit from bitz racing. Now if I were going to keep the car I would do the EFI conversion but I am wondering how this is going to affect the resale value. There is also the option of trying to sell it as is to someone else who is interested in converting to EFI, or just fixing the CIS. Thanks in advance for any opinions or insight.

If you haven't the skills to repair a leaking air box on your own, I seriously doubt you would have the skills for an EFI install, plus the endless hours of tuning and trouble shooting.

The mechanic claims that he has never seen one successfully repaired. From searching here it does not seem that uncommon. I am not completely convinced that I did not fix the part of the airbox I attempted to fix, only to shift the problem to another leak in the system. Anyway, I do not doubt I have the ability to install the EFI, the main concern would be the tuning and if I want to invest that much time. The big question is if that time would at all increase the value over the car with a stock injection system. Assuming both are working properly.

In general the older cars are worth more original than modified.

I have a air box ( small port ) in good shape with no visible issues for $50.00 plus shipping. I picked this up as a spare for a possible EFI conversion but went carbs instead. Just taking up space in the garage.

Doesn't the Bitz kit use the stock airbox (with some modification)... I would think that air leaks could still pose a problem, albiet not as much, with EFI. I'd hate to see someone attempt an EFI conversion only to have the same problem - cracked airbox - continue to cause problems.
